Stuart Baxter has asked for more time before choosing his captains for Kaizer Chiefs, who will lead the team in games when “club skipper“ Itumeleng Khune will not play.
Khune will seemingly remain the club’s first choice captain, with the likes of Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Samir Nurkovic and Bernard Parker standing in for the goalkeeper during parts of 2020/21.
Parker captained Chiefs in the recent CAF Champions League final, which was Baxter’s first game in charge since returning to the dugout and the Englishman has now revealed that he regards Khune as his club captain but will also pick some deputies for the times when the 34-year-old won’t play.
“Regarding the captain, that will take a bit more time,” he told reporters.
“We have a club captain, who is sitting next to me (Khune) and is always looked upon as the skipper. When he plays he is obviously.
“But when Itu is not playing we will have a captain, who will be the team captain in that case.”
Chiefs will take on rivals Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup on Sunday, when Khune will lead out his side to face the Buccaneers.
