Baxter – What’s Changed For Khama

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has explained what has changed for Khama Billiat to perform at a much higher level this season.

Billiat has scored two goals in his first three games of the 2021/22 campaign, including the 1-0 in Chiefs 2-1 win over Baroka on Wednesday evening.

After the match, Baxter addressed the changes that all seem to work in favour of Billiat, who also looks a much happier players this season so far.

“I think Khama had a lot of injury problems and he was out of the game for a long time. He lost a bit of belief in himself,” Baxter said when asked by iDiski Times why Billiat has improved.

“When the team itself was struggling, Khama was struggling to impose himself.

“Fast forward and then he makes these little cameos moving towards the Champions League final, he comes back, plays a bit, plays a bit more and the we’ve sort of stumbled upon a role he really, really enjoys. I think this is a combination of that.

“What I’ve tried to do is to confirm to him that he is a very good footballer. Very good footballers still have to work hard, very good footballers still have to take part in our defending.

“But I think that Khama Billiat when he is on song and I think he’ll be disappointed he didn’t score a hat-trick tonight, but when he is on song like he was in the first half, he is difficult to stop.”

Billiat will now link up with his national team colleagues and take on South Africa with Zimbabwe on 3 September, with Chiefs’ next game only taking place on 12 September.
