Benni Responds To Calls He Must Join Pirates

Benni McCarthy has responded to calls from Sibusiso Zuma that Orlando Pirates should add him to their technical team.

The AmaZulu coach has been linked with a return to his former coach several times but has always rebuffed the rumours.

Zuma was the latest to suggest Irvin Khoza should add McCarthy to the club’s technical team and the reigning DStv Premiership Coach of the Season has thanked him for the kind words before saying he is happy at AmaZulu right now.

“Zuma has his right to speak his mind and say what he thinks because he’s achieved immensely,” he said during a press conference with SAFJA.

“There is only a handful players that go abroad to Europe, whose name is still shouted by the fans.

“Hence he has the right to speak his mind. Unfortunately for us, not many people listen to us.

“Rhee Zuma has a statue in Copenhagen, where has that been heard of? A South African who is an icon in a European country.

“When somebody like Rhee speaks, he speaks from common knowledge and he’s been in situations more than 90% of the country have been in.

“I appreciate all the good words and attributes from Rhee, but you know, I’m continuing my work and at the end of the day, we work ultimately to get the best price, and that is to become a top flight, top class manager, one day managing in the Premier League, managing and in Spanish LaLiga and in Bundesliga, because that’s why we in the game.

“As a player, you want to play you in the best countries, in the toughest countries, amongst the best players. And as a coach, you want to compete you want to manage against the best coaches.

“So yeah, that’s the ultimate goal. So we’re working super hard to get there. So yeah. So that’s all I can say”

Zuma also had an exclusive interview with iDiski Times this week, speaking about Luther Singh’s transfer to Copenhagen, his famous bicycle kick as well as his time at Orlando Pirates and Percy Tau’s move to Al Ahly.
