Benni Reveals His New Nickname
Benni McCarthy has revealed his new nickname after guiding AmaZulu into the CAF Champions League for a first time in history.
Usuthu secured second place on the DStv Premiership log after beating Swallows FC 1-0 on Wednesday.
As a consequence, McCarthy and his men will represent Mzansi in next season’s CAF Champions League alongside Mamelodi Sundowns.
It doesn’t surprise that the former Cape Town City coach was delighted with his side’s achievement this campaign, joking he now has a special nickname as Zulu warrior.
“It’s a shame, it’s a shame that we are having a historical season but we are not allowed to share it with the our fans, the AmaZulu faithful,” he told SuperSport.
“But like we said, things are gonna change and hopefully next season the league will have strategies in place where we can allow the fans in, because I think there is nothing more than we deserve to see them here. Just to give us that extra-mile, that extra-push, that extra-motivation on the pitch. We want to celebrate with them.
“But yeah, history in the making. The club’s never been in this situation and I’m proud that I was able to attach my name again to a little bit of history, and this not as a national pleasure but here in the Zulu kingdom.
“So from today onwards I believe I’m officially Mr Benni Makathini, Zulu warrior!”
