AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy has said his team need to gets a striker that is hungry to score goals.
The former Bafana Bafana striker was speaking after Usuthu’s goalless draw against Swallows in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.
With an international break ahead, McCarthy, who is yet to win a game this season, is frustrated to see his players need to so many chances to score, and says he needs to bring someone who will take the easy chances when they fall to them.
“I think from here now we can go back and then use this international break to work on a lot of things, and hopefully try and get another another striker in because ja, I think it’s one of my biggest frustrations in the team,” McCarthy said after the Swallows game.
“Most teams have players when you get one or two chances you take them. And we seem to want to get three, four or five chances to always take one.
“So ja, so I think if we can get probably another striker that’s hungry to score goals, that wants to score goals, sometimes when you play tough matches like this, you only need to get one chance. And we got that chance. And then we miss it.
“Against Sundowns, they got one chance, the penalty they scored, and then we get probably the easiest chance of the game and then we don’t score and then you end up losing the game.
“So ja, it’s becoming frustrating, from a team point of view that you do well, you need to work exceptionally hard to create 3,4, 5 chances to win games where other teams sometimes just need one chance to win a game, so I think ja, that’s that’s a massive lacking for us there.”
