Benni – We Want To Compete
AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy has explained why he wanted to add more strikers in his team before the 2021-2022 season had started.
The South African coach has admitted he wanted to add more forward players, despite having the likes of Lehohonolo Majoro, Sphelele Mthembu and Bonginkosi Ntuli in his striking department already.
McCarthy’s AmaZulu unveiled seven players as their only signings for the current season as they were preparing to compete in multiple competition.
Usuthu are now competing in the Africa’s premier competition, the CAF Champions League after securing 2nd position in the DStv Premiership last season, and reached the second preliminary round after dispatching Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets over two legs
“Because of the complications of what we have put ourselves in now, we want to do exceptionally well in the league as we did last season,” McCarthy revealed to Thomas Mlambo on Ultimate Sports Show on Metro FM on Tuesday.
“We want to compete with the Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns, Swallows and the SuperSport and any other team in the league as well.”
“And we want to fly the South African flag high in the Champions League as well and for that we need a squad capable of competing in all those competitions.”
“And yes, we’ve got good players, we’ve got good strikers and that but when you want to compete, we just don’t want to compete, but also win things, we want to be good enough to compete to win the league, we want to be good enough to compete to win the Nedbank, we want to be good enough to compete to winning the CAF Champions league.”
AmaZulu face Golden Arrows later today in a KZN derby in the DStv Premiership.
