Davids Want To Build On Momentum
Maritzburg United assistant coach Maahier Davids says the team is happy to have a win under the belt, and are now focussed on three more points against Marumo Gallants.
The Team of Choice host Gallants at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday in a catch-up DStv Premiership match.
Davids says they’ve been working hard behind-the-scenes and the away win against Baroka was very satisfying.
“We’ve done a lot of hard work in the background for the past two months, so getting that first win felt extremely rewarding,” Davids told the club’s website.
“It was important to build the confidence and to build some momentum going forward as well. Hopefully we can use it as a stepping stone for the next games to come.
“I’ve seen their games and analysed them, they’ve got really good individuals and can mix it up. We have to be prepared for a game, let’s say a bit of chaos.
“I think they thrive in that environment, but we have to stick to our game plan, stay calm and structured. If we play the same way we did in Polokwane, I’m sure we can get a positive result.
“We can’t look back, we have to look forward. Next is a home game where we have to try and pick up points. Taking that confidence from the last game will be important.
“The first win would also have given the new players that taste of victory and for a guy like Richard Zumah, who scored his first goal in South Africa, and just in general the clean sheet…the team had a good trip going away from home and coming back from home with the three points, we couldn’t have asked for more.
“We worked hard on fixing what we didn’t do well. Yes we got the result and were happy with the fight, but there are always things to improve on and those are the things we worked on for the past 11 days.”
