Chiefs Outclass Chippa

Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat inspired Kaizer Chiefs to a 4-0 win over Chippa United in their DStv Premiership match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

It was the first time Chippa coach Gavin Hunt had faced his former team since leaving the Amakhosi last season, and while Hunt’s team tried hard, Dolly and Billiat’s performances were the big difference.

Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 Chippa United

Thokozani Sekotlong had a great opportunity in the sixth minute, but his effort went just wide of Daniel Akpeyi’s goal. A minute later he was on target, but this time Akpeyi made the save.

However Chiefs were in the lead in the 12th minute, after Billiat pounced on an error to set up Dolly, who finished with aplomb to make it 1-0.

Rashid Watenga had to be alert in the 19th minute to get fingertips to an effort from Billiat, while Bernard Parker went narrowly wide in the 25th minute from just outside the box.

And it was 2-0 to Chiefs on the half hour mark, and once again it was Dolly with another fine strike from just outside the box, placing it into the bottom left corner, after a good run from the halfway line.

Sekotlong’s effort in the 36th minute was on target but lacked power and Akpeyi saved comfortably, while five minutes later the Nigerian goalkeeper did well to stop Siphesihle Mkhize’s deflected effort.

At the break Chiefs led by two, and Phathutshedzo Nange almost made it three in the 51st minute, but his shot went straight to Watenga.

Sekotlong had another good chance for the visitors in the 59th minute, but Akpeyi made a good save to deny him. A minute later Maloisane Mokhele shot high and wide. Mokhele tried again from range in the 68th minute, but it went straight to Akpeyi.

But was 3-0 in the 70th minute, as the two former Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns players combined again, Dolly turning provider this time, playing in Billiat, who made no mistake with his first time shot.

Substitute Jemondre Dickens was on target for Chippa with his header in the 79th minute, but Akpeyi was well positioned, while Dickens’ deflected effort two minutes later went wide.

Lazarous Kambole wrapped up the result in stoppage time as he poked in from close range to make it 4-0.

A good win for Stuart Baxter’s men, on Kaizer Motaung’s birthday, and Chiefs climb into the top eight with this result.

Sekhukhune United 1-0 Cape Town City

Meanwhile on Saturday afternoon, Sekhukhune United beat Cape Town City 1-0 at Ellis Park Stadium.

After a goalless first half, Chubuike Ohizu scored what would be the winning goal for the home team in the 50th minute, as he caught the City defence napping to score his fourth goal of the season.

While City pushed for goals throughout the game, they found goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata in good form.

SuperSport United 2-0 Baroka

SuperSport United closed the gap on log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to one point, as they beat Baroka 2-0 at the  Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

While there were no goals in the first half, Gamphani Lungu put the home team in front in the 53rd minute, before adding his second just three minutes later, with a well-executed lob.

Sundowns are not involved in league action this weekend, due to CAF Champions League commitments.
