City Coach Praises Two Of His Stars

Jan Olde Riekerink has heaped praise on two of his players who stood out as Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates played to a 2-2 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch last Saturday.

While Abbubaker Mobara took home the man of the match award, and scored a cracking long range goal for City, Olde Riekerink says two other players could easily have won the man of the match gong.

Olde Riekerink said it was a tough game, and he knows that Pirates could easily have taken the result had it not been for some excellent saves from City’s goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh.

“Yah, he came back from an injury so was a little shaky in the first few games, but I think that he is growing every game, even more and more,” the Cape Town City coach said.

“He is such an excellent goalkeeper for us.”

Olde Riekerink also had praise for Mdu Mdantsane, who scored City’s opening goal.

“Yah, I love the guy, first of all his personality, his energy, his creativity,” Olde Riekerink said.

“Sometimes I talk to him about his positioning, and sometimes he loses the ball, but that’s also the risks he takes with all his actions. And of course he scores the goal easily, but if you play with Thabo (Nodada) and Mdu, then you know you have a very offensive midfield.”

“I must say that he brings something extra to every team.”

City return to the Danie Craven Stadium for their next match on the 15th of December, however this time it will be an away game, as they face Stellenbosch FC.
