Cape Town City speedster Craig Martin is delighted to receive his first call up to the national team, after being included by Molefi Ntseki in the Bafana Bafana squad to take on Ghana and Sudan in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The winger-turned-full back has been in good form for Jan Olde Riekerink’s team this season and is excited about the opportunity.
‘Dooger’ is a bit of a late bloomer, and having played most of his career for his local club in Kensington, he joined Hellenic when he was 20 where he played in the ABC Motsepe League. He also had one season at Glendale United in the same division before being snapped up by City in 2017.
He has since played 95 games for the club, scoring 10 times in all domestic competitions.
“I’m honoured to be picked for the national team, to be called up for the national team,” Martin told the club’s media department.
“I’ve worked hard waiting for this opportunity. “
“I’ve been playing in various positions for Cape Town City and they selected me… and if they select me, if I play in any position, I will do my utmost best.”
Bafana play Ghana at the FNB Stadium on March 22nd, before finishing off their campaign against Sudan away a week later.
