Davids On Relationship With Middendorp
Maahier Davids has opened up on his relationship with Ernst Middendorp after re-uniting with the German coach at Maritzburg United.
The younger of the two Davids’ brothers returned to South Africa following a stint with Ethiopian giants Saint George, where he initially worked as assistant to Middendorp but was made head coach after the German left.
Davids, who holds a UEFA A Licence, has now followed Middendorp once again, as he was unveiled by Maritzburg United alongside four new players this week.
“It’s great to be back home in familiar surroundings,” he told the club’s media department.
“It’s pleasing to see the steps taken and progress in terms of the infrastructure, with the fields, the facilities here. I’m looking forward to work.
“Coach Ernst is a highly qualified and experienced coach for me to link up with. We have an existing relationship that has worked in the past and I’m sure will work again now.
“And of course the remaining staff as well, the support staff – Zola, Pule, Zama, Manyoni and of course Quinton. So it’s good to join the family once again.”
Davids also revealed that The Team of Choice have been in pre-season for two weeks already.
“We’ve had two weeks now – and taken good first steps in terms of getting the guys together after their off-season,” he added.
“It’s a gradual progress, there is integration with the team dynamic and the football fitness that we are looking for, and from the tactical side. We take it step by step.”
Davids previously worked at Maritzburg during a three-year spell between 2015 and 2018, assisting his brother Fadlu as well as Roger De Sa.
