South Africa’s four representatives in the CAF competitions this season have found out who they will face in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.
Downs will kick off their CAF Champions League campaign against Maniema Union after being one of the teams that had a bye in the first round.
The DR Congo opponents, meanwhile, beat Gabon’s Bouendguidi de Koulamoutou 2-1 on aggregate. Masandawana will travel to Congo on 15 October before hosting Maniema at home a week later.
AmaZulu will also face Congolese opposition, meeting TP Mazembe. The five-time winners of the competition also had a bye in the first round and will be a huge test for Benni McCarthy’s side, who will host Mazembe at home on 15 October before traveling to DR Congo a week later.
Defending champions Al Ahly, who had a bye in the first round, will face Union Sportive Gendarmerie National from Niger after they eliminated Le Messager Ngozi 2-1 on aggregate.
In the CAF Confederations Cup, Pirates will face Republic of the Congo side Diables Noirs after they eliminated Bumamuru 1-0 on aggregate.
The Buccaneers will first travel to Congo on 15 October before hosting their opponents in South Africa a week later.
Marumo Gallants, meanwhile, will also meet a DR Congo opponent, facing AS Vita in the next round. Vita were one of the clubs that had a bye in the first preliminary round.
