Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has reacted to his side’s qualification for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup saying its’ the minimum a club of Chiefs’ stature can do.
Chiefs scored two late unanswered goals against Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday to cement third place on the log.
With 51 points and two games to spare, none of their nearest competitors for the spot including Babina Noko can catch them.
Next season will be the second time they partake in the inter-club continental tournament after this current campaign where they exited at the group stage.
This also means it’s Amakhosi’s best finish since 2020 where they slipped out of the top eight.
Meanwhile, Youssef told the media after the game that achieving this milestone took a lot of effort.
“I think a lot of time we said that the minimum that we can do this season is to be in the top three to play again in the AFCON [Confederation Cup],” answered Youssef when asked by iDiski Times what it means to meet the target.
“For one of the biggest teams in South Africa and in Africa I think it’s the minimum that we can do. At least now we are already qualified for the next season, for the AFCON [Confed Cup].
“Congratulations to the fans, congratulations to the board, congratulations to the technical staff and the players.
“Is not the work only of us, it’s the work of a lot of people behind the scene. You see the performance of the keeper, the resilience behind him, if you see the fitness of the team and the players coming from out of the squad.
“And every time I said to them, like you are like a military, so you have to be ready any game. There is much staff behind, it’s the fitness coach, our analysts, our doctor, we have to say congratulations to everybody.
“Like I said, it’s the minimum that you can do for the team to be in the top three.”
