The SAFA Ethics Committee has exonerated Luc Eymael from any alleged wrongdoing in a case brought up against the Belgian coach for alleged racist remarks.
This is according to news reaching iDiski Times, after judgement was handed down by the Ethics committee, chaired by Judge Sisi Khampepe, who was assisted by Judge Ronnie Pillay, and attorney Candylee de Sousa.
Eymael’s alleged comments were made when he was in Tanzania, when he allegedly referred to Young African fans as ‘monkeys and dogs’.
Following reports of those comments, Chippa United had twice tried to employ the former Polokwane City, Black Leopards and Free State Stars, but an outcry on social media from SAFA, SAFCA and the players union, saw Chippa backtrack on both occasions.
The SAFA Ethics Committee, though, came to their decision, after deciding they could not confirm if the sound recording of Eymael’s comments were real or fake, and therefore it couldn’t be used as evidence.
“The recording (Exhibit A) upon which Mr Abercrombie bases his case on is also problematic,” it said in the ruling.
“He conceded that despite Mr Eymael’s consistent assertion that the recording is false and is a product of manipulation of another recording so as to change the meaning of the latter, no investigation was conducted into the authenticity of the said recording, he seeks the committee to rely on.
“This recording consequently suffers serious deficiencies. There is furthermore no evidence to explain why this evidence could or should be relied upon. The suggestion that we do so because of the logical sequence of events referred to is unconvincing and therefore cannot serve to prove any case against Mr Eymael.”
“In the circumstances, the committee is unable to find that any derogatory, insulting or racist remarks were spoken by Mr Eymael. In the result, Mr Luc Eymael is exonerated from any alleged wrongdoing,” the ruling ended.
