AmaZulu Head Coach Benni McCarthy is expecting a high stakes derby against Maritzburg United on Sunday.
The two KwaZulu-Natal DStv Premiership clubs meet at the Kings Park Stadium.
AmaZulu, who lost in their last game against Kaizer Chiefs, will look to bounce back against the Team of Choice, and improve on their current 9th position.
McCarthy though has high praise for Ernst Middendorp’s team, who have won their last two games to move out of the relegation zone and into 13th spot.
The former Bafana Bafana striker says it’s an big game for both sides.
“I think for both teams it’s equally important. For us, we also want to pull away from teams that are below us, and get ourselves closer to healthier positions in the league,” McCarthy told the club’s media officer.
“And I’m pretty sure Maritzburg, they’ve played two fantastic games, wins against Bloem Celtic and against Chiefs, so stakes are high, and their camp is probably very spirited because they’ve picked up six points from the last two games, and that is good.”
“So it makes for good reading that come Sunday it’s gonna be a derby, both teams fighting for it, both teams playing good football, and hopefully maybe we just had the edge over them.”
