Ernst Middendorp says he is happy to be back at Maritzburg United, after being announced as the new coach on Thursday.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach returns to the Team of Choice for a fourth time, replacing Eric Tinkler who was sacked at the beginning of the week.
Middendorp quit Ethiopian club St. George this week, despite having only joined them in October.
“Yah, it’s quite a comfortable situation knowing about 90% of the players, the environment is known, and yah, it is something that is very comfortable for all of us,” Middendorp told the club’s social media platforms.
Middendorp is confident that things will turn around at the club, and says that the team’s run of results this season has been unfortunate.
“I think even in this season, you see in the MTN8 Maritzburg United played just some weeks ago, let’s say 60% of the game the players have shown that not only individual quality is there, they’ve done it in a fantastic collective way. And probably it’s a bit of a confidence in the moment, we have to work on it, we have to make sure they do their best, and then it will come.”
Maritzburg are currently bottom of the DSTV Premiership table after 4 losses in as many games, and are back in action this evening when they host SuperSport United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
