Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has defended goalkeeper Denis Onyango over his professional foul that resulted in a red card against Sekhukhune United at Tuks Stadium.
Masandawana were reduced to 10 men five minutes before the final whistle when Onyango was shown a straight red card for denying a scoring opportunity during their 2-0 win over Babina Noko.
However, Mokwena insisted he will not criticise individual players and the club’s handbook will guide them in terms of potential punishments.
“We are together, we win together, when we lose, we lose together, when we make mistakes, we make mistakes together, we never single out any individual,” Mokwena told reporters.
“Because that is what winners do, winners take pressure, take mistakes, take the success together. They share the success, the mistakes, the failures together, and they move in they make progress together and that’s what you will continue together.
“The club has clear policies, there is a handbook that the club has and which outlines what is tolerable behavior and what isn’t both on and off the field, so we shouldn’t try to make this big situation, and then we try to make this hill when it’s just the smaller hill, and we should not exaggerate situations, this has happened it’s not the first time.
“We have seen a red card after trying to save the team and these things happen. We will deal with it, but we’ll deal with it internally and the club will take the right sort of measures to be able to deal with the situation.
“It’s not a form of ill discipline, but it is a form of compromising and with an element of difficulty in responding to a compromised situation, but it is what it is. We’ll deal with it and the club will deal with it as the club relating to the policies and the handbook that is set out and everybody is aware.”
Masandawana will now travel to Cape Town to face Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday, 4 December.
