No Goals For Pirates & Arrows

It ended goalless between Orlando Pirates and Golden Arrows in their DStv Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

It was the seventh goalless draw in the past ten leagues games between the two sides.

Meanwhile the earlier game in the day between Stellenbosch and Swallows also ended in a draw.

Orlando Pirates 0-0 Golden Arrows

It took some time for the first real chance at goal, in fact 39 minutes for the first effort, but Goodman Mosele’s ambitious long distance shot went just wide of goal.

In the 41st minute Nduduzo Sibiya went even closer, but his free kick attempt brushed the upright and went behind.

Just before half-time Deon Hotto had a good chance as well, but his first-time effort in front of goal was blasted over.

Kwame Peprah’s header was off target in the 48th minute, while Happy Jele went wide in the 52nd minute.

Lindokuhle Mtshali also couldn’t find the target with his 68th minute attempt, while Nkosi Gumede finally had to make save in the 72nd minute to deny Pirates substitute Kabelo Dlamini.

Gumede was needed again in the 76th minute, to deny another substitute Zakhele Lepasa, while on the counter Pule Mmodi shot wide at the other end.

The subs were getting into the action, and Fortune Makaringe’s effort was deflected behind in the 86th minute. Arrows somewhat fortunate, as the ball seemed to strike Lungelo Dube’s arm.

Sbonelo Cele was off target two minutes later, while Dlamini shot over in stoppage time.

It ended goalless, Pirates remain second, but remain 17 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Stellenbosch 1-1 Swallows

Swallows scored in stoppage time to force a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch at the Danie Craven Stadium in today’s earlier match.

Zitha Kwinika put the home team in front in the 9th minute, heading in from Juan Ortiz’s ball into the box.

Swallows had a number of chances of their own, and will have felt unfortunate to have gone into the break trailing 1-0.

With no more goals coming in the 90 minutes it looked like Stellenbosch would get the win and move into second spot, but Wandisile Letlabika headed in an equaliser, as the home team failed to clear their lines.
