Upington City FC chairman Vusi Ntimane has shared the vision of the team, saying they want to be the next Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Bafana Ba Gucci as they are affectionately known, are the newcomers campaigning in the Northern Cape ABC Motsepe.
City are currently second on the Stream A table, with unbeaten on 13 points, behind leaders His Desire Sports Academy, on goal difference.
“We are building a big brand here,” Ntimane confidently told iDiski Times in the paper’s edition 46.
“This will be the next Bloemfontein Celtic, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, combined with Cape Town City, with rich history like Orlando Pirates. That’s what we are trying to build here.
“It won’t be easy but everyday we have to do better than yesterday, starting from the chefs, bus driver, marketing team, players, technical team and the Chairman.
“We have to also mention that we really appreciate the support we get and see from all corners of the country from fans. We are so humbled by their support.”
Ntimane, who served as a media officer at Polokwane City and Cape Town City as well as being a Team Manager at TS Sporting, has also spoken about the ambitions of the team.
“We hope to unearth young talent and give them opportunities to play professional football. We want to see more Ruben Cloetes at Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu, Cape Town City, Swallows or overseas, that’s our main aim,” he said.
“And we also want to see the team in the DStv Premiership in five years. But all these can only happen if we have the backing of the community. With the community behind us, believe me, we can achieve our goals.”
