Official: SuperSport Confirm Mkhwanazi

SuperSport United have confirmed the signing of Bafana Bafana central defender Buhle Mkhwanazi.

The 31 year old has signed a one year deal with an option to extend.

Mkhwanazi was inactive last season, having last played in the 2019/2020 season for Bidvest Wits.

He had spent six seasons at Wits, having joined from AmaTuks. The former Mamelodi Sundowns youngster also had a brief spell at Bloemfontein Celtic before joining Tuks.

He has 21 caps for Bafana, but last played in 2019 in the 2-0 loss to Ghana in the Afcon qualifiers.

“Buhle brings us maturity, character and leadership at the back where the void of Clayton Daniels, Bongani Khumalo and Grant Kekana has left us thin in terms of experience,” SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews told the club’s media department.

“Buhle knows what is required to win trophies at an ambitious club like ours with his success at Wits and we think he will add value to the team and positively impact our younger players in the squad.“

“It feels great to join a team like SuperSport,” Mkhwanazi said.

“Honestly, I’ve always wanted to play for SuperSport. And the only thing that really made the decision to be easy was how the team is run, the trophies that the team has worn as well. The competitiveness, you know, of the team as well.

” So it’s great to join SuperSport I think I’ll enjoy myself and revive my career.”
