Phiri Survives Shooting In Alexandra
Premier Soccer League legend Alfred Maimane Phiri has reportedly been admitted to the hospital after he was shot twice in Alexandra.
According to reports in local media the 47-year-old Phiri was shot in 4th Avenue at his tavern on Thursday after he tried to intervene to stop an altercation.
The former Bafana Bafana star was shot in his hand and lower body while the suspect shot another man on the scene and himself – both have reportedly succumbed in hospital.
Phiri who played for Jomo Cosmos, Ajax, SuperSport United and Swallows starred in the Turkish Super Lig between 1996 and 2002 and represented South Africa at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
