Pirates Bring In Former City GK Coach
As predicted by iDiski Times last month, former Cape Town City goalkeeper coach Sjoerd Woudenberg has joined Orlando Pirates.
In Edition 26 of the newspaper, Rob Delport had indicated that Woudenberg looked to be heading to Pirates, who have not had a full-time goalkeeper coach since Jyri Nieminen left the club. Veteran keeper Wayne Sandilands was fulfilling a dual role.
Woudenberg had left City at the end of last season, following the exit of Jan Olde Riekerink as head coach.
“Five years working in the Netherlands, for Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch Premier League and in the First Division and if we go longer back, I worked for Ajax Amsterdam,” Woudenberg told PiratesTV.
“I think if you train every every training session and goalkeeper session on the highest level, then you should adapt to things quick in my way of working, the way I try to improve the goalkeepers.
“To be honest if you see the last week, how they already make steps in the development.
“I think to be honest, it must not be so tough to to reach the highest level. Especially for a club as Pirates you will you must be the best.”
