Pirates Clarify Ncikazi Role

There had been some unclarity around Mandla Ncikazi’s role at Orlando Pirates, but the Buccaneers have now provided some details on his position.

The 52-year-old joined the Pirates after leading Golden Arrows into fourth place in the DStv Premiership last season.

However, when his move to Orlando Stadium was announced the club did only say he joined the technical team, without clarifying his position.

Administrative officer Floyd Mbele has now explained that Ncikazi will be working as one of the club’s two assistants – the other being Fadlu Davids – to Josef Zinnbauer.

“Mandl Ncikazi is a coach that we have brought in to reinforce our technical team, because there is a lot of work that goes on” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM.

“In years gone by, we’ve always had a coach and two assistants, only in the last season when we only had two.

“When coach Micho was there, we had two assistants, for all the years it’s something that had been there. It was something that when we were looking at reinforcing, particularly with the challenges the players had, it only made sense.

“It made sense to bring in Mandla Ncikazi, to be able to be part of the technical team, to be able to assist us to be able to reaching our targets.”

Pirates have announced the arrival of four new players this week, with Mbele also confirming that more announcements from the club in terms of player movements should be expected in the second or third week of July.
