Pitso Praises Downs Star
Al Ahly and former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has commented on the sidelining of Hlompho Kekana at the DStv Premiership champions.
The 36-year-old Kekana was a fixture in Mosimane’s Sundowns team over the years, but following his departure in 2020, the club captain has seen very little action, and has yet to feature at all this season.
Mosimane was speaking in a radio interview on Tuesday, as he has a short vacation at home in South Africa, before returning to Cairo next week.
“Kekana is the captain, hey,” Mosimane told Sports Night Live with Andile Ncube.
“I mean, the man, he will crack a ball outside the box. What does he want? And who’s going to make that pass? And who directs the team, who leads the team?
“That’s a player for the national team man, that’s the guy who goes to FIFA with awards. The guy who scores, he will give you six to seven, eight goals a year.
“That’s the guy who has lifted more trophies than any other captain in Mamelodi Sundowns history.
“That’s the guy I rely on, that’s my coach on the pitch. That’s the guy who understands Champions League, hey?”
