After Benni McCarthy revealed what Kaitano Tembo said to him that led to their massive touchline bust-up, the SuperSport United coach has now opened up on the incident.
The Zimbabwean and McCarthy were caught on camera during the clash between Usuthu and SuperSport, shouting at each other on the sidelines recently.
The Matsatsantsa head coach has now apologised after AmaZulu’s McCarthy had openly explained his side of the story, insisting he had to stand up for himself after Tembo insulted him.
However, Tembo insisted both coaches and clubs should put the incident to bed now.
“Us as coaches we have an obligation to lead by example. I think on my part its one area where I’d like to apologise for whatever happened there,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM Sport On.
“I think the other party has been the one little bit talking more than me, but at the same time when we want to lead by example we need to show a little bit of class in terms of how we handle ourself.
“So on behalf of myself and the club, I’d like to apologise of whatever happened there. Because it’s very key for us as coaches. I don’t think as coaches we should be caught in a situation whereby we exchange in words like that.
“But I think we should be putting those behind us and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Make sure we do well for the image of South African football.”
The PSL are yet to comment on the incident and it remains to be seen whether either or both coaches will be punished for their touchline behaviour.
SuperSport will face Maritzburg United in their next DStv Premiership fixture on Saturday.
