Tinkler Hails New City Signings

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has hailed new Venezuelan signing, Darwin González, comparing him to Surprise Ralani, and also spoke fondly of their other new signing Mo May.

The Citizens have announced the 26-year-old’s arrival on Tuesday after he parted ways Deportivo La Guaira in December just 10 months into his second stint, as reported by iDiski Times on Monday.

The club also confirmed the arrival of Mo May, who joins from Hanover Park.

Tinkler is confident that González has the attributes and abilities to fill the gap left by Ralani who recently joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Darwin has pace and creativity, very similar to what Ralani gave us, but he also has the ability to score goals,” Tinkler told the club’s media department.

“He can play either out wide or as a striker, so he gives us a lot of options in attack.

“He’s a fantastic acquisition. He’s someone who has played in Africa before with Etoile in Tunisia, so he has CAF experience, and we’re happy to have him at our club.”

The Venezuelan has scored 31 goals with 12 assists in 108 games at his previous club, Deportivo La Guaira.

Meanwhile Tinkler was also full of praise for May, a former Ajax Cape Town youth player, who has also turned out for lower league teams The Magic, Steenberg United and most recently, Hanover Park.

“He is a young, promising player, 23 years of age, he was playing for Hanover Park, having a very, very good season,” Tinkler said

“I think he scored 12 goals in nine games, quite prolific, came to us on trial and done exactly what he was doing at Hanover Park, was scoring a lot of goals in training and in the friendly matches that we played.

“So obviously, that generated the interest for us to look to sign him.

“He is a natural goalscorer from what what I can see and what I believe and he’s got a lot of pace and, and power. So I think he’s a good acquisition for us in the striking department.”

Both players are already full integrated into the club’s training, and were involved in a friendly game against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday. May got himself on the scoresheet, while González provided an assist for a goal by the promising DDC star Jaedin Rhodes.
