TS Sporting Pleased With Progress
TS Sporting head coach Kabelo Sibiya is pleased with how his side are gelling ahead of the upcoming GladAfrica Championship campaign, Lethabo Kganyago reports.
The Mpumalanga-based outfit has been competing in friendlies and won the inaugural Global Top Four pre-season tournament beating Marumo Gallants and Baroka FC in the process this past Saturday.
Sibiya says he is happy with how his players are understanding his tactics.
“We are showing that we are getting there in terms of physic but more was the tactics which I believe worked well because we didn’t concede a goal against two DStv Premiership sides. It is one of the areas which are important and we wanted to work on that for this season because the previous season we lost a spot in the playoffs with one goal. At the moment I’m very pleased with overall preparation,” said Sibiya.
The coach further adds that he has an idea of what his starting 11 will look like, however, he doesn’t want to tamper much with the squad from last season.
“We wouldn’t want to change much we had a team that did well except for the players that left because of transfers and other players were released the U23s that turned over age so we just don’t want to tamper much with the starting 11 from last season, just one two three players. It is encouraging and we just want to prepare with everyone without focusing on the starting 11 because we don’t know why might happen when we get closer to competition,” added Sibiya.
The former Buya Msuthu mentor says his mandate for the new term is to promote the club automatically to the DSTV Premiership.
“The mandate is clear, is to get the team into the DTSV premiership with automatic promotion minimum with the promotional playoffs but it makes more sense to get automatic promotion. It gives you ample time to prepare and know which players to sign but when you are in the playoffs it is very difficult to make signings up until you are assured that you are promoted,” the coach continued.
Sibiya also confirmed that Sporting has signed winger Onyedikachi Ononogbu. The player spent last season on loan at Black Leopards where he played 14 matches before being sent back to his mother club JDR Stars after his suspension with two other players for participating in an amateur festive tournament. Sibiya couldn’t confirm other signings.
“So we signed Ononogbu, it’s only two players that are with us today that are yet to be signed. We have signed a couple of players the challenge is that the club has not yet made a statement of the players that have been signed so it’s a bit difficult for me to reveal before the club has made an announcement. Because you asked about Ononogbu I had to be direct about it but it’s bit complex for me to unveil the player before the club does,” concluded the coach.
