Zinnbauer Confirms Pirates Absentees Ahead Of MTN8
Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer has given an update of which players will not be available for the MTN8 quarter-final against Swallows FC.
The defending champions will face the Dube Birds in their quarter-final fixture on Saturday.
Zinnbauer confirmed that long-term absentees Tshegofatso Mabasa and Zakhele Lepasa are still sidelined, while Innocent Maela has also been ruled out and Thembinkosi Lorch and Richard Ofori had minor issues but should be fine.
“Yes, we have a little bit of problems, but that’s normal in a pre-season. Maela is not available, we check this today. Lorch had a little bit of a problem with his shoulder, he was out yesterday, but he should be fine.
“Mabasa and Lepasa are out, as you know. Ofori had a little problem with his eye, but he should be fine.”
Zinnbauer also gave an update on his side’s pre-season and the fight for places in his line-up.
“We are not finished with the pre-season. Yes, we won the title last season. But I think all eight teams want to win,” he explained.
“We have to give all players a chance. We have a lot of good players. Some players need a little more time. Messi in the last week was sick.
“We have a squad, they fight for a place and they fight for the starting line-up.”
Pirates won the MTN8 trophy last season, beating Cape Town City 1-0, Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 and 2-0 before a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in the final.
