Zinnbauer – Lorch Has To Score

Josef Zinnbauer has lamented the second-half miss of Thembinkosi Lorch when Itumeleng Khune denied him from close range.

Orlando Pirates lost Sunday’s Carling Black Label Cup 4-3 on penalties after the game had ended goalless inside 90 minutes.

Zinnbauer’s side had a huge chance to open the score in the second interval but Lorch missed a free shot from inside the box and his coach was not too impressed with the wasted opportunity.

“I think we have good final third, we have good opportunities to score, especially in the second half. Lorch he has to score,” he told SuperSport after the game.

“Normally, it is the right player in the right position, he scores and then I think it’s done the game.”

Overall, though, Zinnbauer was pleased with his side’s performance at this stage in pre-season, saying his side dominated Kaizer Chiefs for large parts of the match.

“It was a good game, I think, for both teams at this time of the pre-season. We know both teams and the players are usually a bit tired at this point in pre-season, but it’s not an excuse” he said in his post-match press conference.

“I think we have in the first half good opportunities, especially in the final third and second half as well. More ball possession than Kaizer Chiefs.

“Ok, in second half, maybe we’ve 10 minutes where we were not so good in the game, more defence than offence but then we changed again and have then a big chance where we can go ahead.

“We have then a little bit luck, the penalty was a mistake in midfield and the transition to defend was not so easy then. I don’t know for sure if it hit the hand, I couldn’t see it from my position and then we concede the penalty but Ofori saved it very good.

“Then we get penalties (in the end) and with penalties, it’s always a bit of luck. In the end of the day, we lost the game and I’m not happy about this.

“But it’s pre-season. For our supporters it’s a big game, we have to fight for this, we have to say normally we want to win the game.”

Pirates next official game will be their MTN8 quarter-final against Swallows.
