Amiens Coach Provides Zungu Update

January 20, 2022

Amiens head coach Philippe Hinschberger admits the return of Bongani Zungu provides him with healthy options for the remainder of the season.

Zungu completed his first 90 minutes of league football since June 2020 in the 1-0 defeat against Ajaccio as his side dropped back into the relegation zone of Ligue 2.

With 18 games remaining this season and it seems unlikely they will be securing their promotion and Zungu now seems likely to see out the remainder of his contract at the French club.

Speaking before the game, the Frenchman told LeAmienois that he’s been encouraged by the Bafana Bafana midfielder since his return to the first-team set-up.

“We have a plethora of choices in the midfield,” he said. “We played a lot with Gnahoré, Benet and Lusamba, it went pretty well.

“We have good news for me which is the return to form of Bongani Zungu because he has a passing quality and a technical quality that’s interesting [to us].”

Zungu who has strongly been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs in recent months is eligible to sign a pre-contract with any club as of 1 January 2022.
