Bafana Star Gets Win On Debut

Bafana Bafana midfielder Luke Le Roux made a winning debut for Volendam in the Eredivisie.

Le Roux, 23, joined Volendam from Varberg BOIS in the previous transfer window but had a tough start to life at his new club after picking up an injury in training shortly after his arrival.

The strong midfielder had been a regular figure in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squads but missed out on the preliminary selection for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

On Saturday, he finally made his debut in the Eredivisie, coming off the bench in Volendam’s 2-1 win at Heerenveen.

Le Roux featured for 24 minutes, ending a long spell on the sidelines, which seems to have cost him his spot in the Bafana squad.

However, after receiving raring reviews during his time in Sweden, the former SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC midfielder looks to have a bright future.

It was Volendam’s first win in seven games after they had lost five of the previous six matches – the three points saw them climb off the bottom of the log into 17th place.
