Former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell is among three coaches who were nominated for the prestigious Coach of the Season award in the Major League Soccer after his incredible campaign so far.
Carnell was appointed as the head coach of Saint Louis City at the beginning of the MLS season, and has since broken multiple records with the new franchise.
The former Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates assistant coach started the season like a house on fire after his side broke the record to become the first expansion side to win their first five MLS games in a row.
But St. Louis, who also acquired the services of Njabulo Blom last year December, didn’t stop there and just kept on going to finish at the top of the Western Conference, collecting 56 points in 34 matches. City also set a record 17 wins in their MLS debut campaign.
As a consequence, they also secured a spot in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions League and will play for the league title in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Carnell has now been recognised for the outstanding debut campaign, as the South African mentor has been nominated for the SIGI SCHMID Coach Of The Year category alongside FC Cincinnati head coach Pat Noonan and Colombia Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy.
