Mayo Continues Scoring Form In Algeria

South African striker Khanyisa Mayo continued his fine form in front of goal, scoring for Algerian giants CR Belouizdad in their convincing 3-0 victory over Saoura on Tuesday afternoon.

This was Mayo’s second goal in his last three starts for the former Cape Town City marksman in all competitions. He also scored in their 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League two weeks ago.

Abderrahmane Bentahar had given the hosts the lead in the 49th minute before Aimen Mahious doubled his side’s lead in the 52nd minute. Mayo then rounded off the scoring for Belouizdad in the 57th minute.

The 26-year-old struggled to hit the ground running since making the move up North Africa at the beginning of the current campaign but seems to have his ducks in a row as he looks to force his way back into the Bafana Bafana fold ahead of next year’s AFCON.

The win propelled Belouizdad to seventh place with 16 points from 10 outings.

Next up for Mayo and his teammates is a tough assignment to Egypt where they will take on Al Ahly in the Champions League on Sunday, 22 December, at Cairo International Stadium.
