South Africa U17 international defender Waylon Renecke has expressed his delight after signing his first professional contract with Norwich.
Renecke, 17, has been promoted to their U21 squad for the upcoming season and will have opportunities to train with the first team.
“I feel very good [about signing],” he told the club’s official website.
“It’s a big moment for me in my career. I’ve made my family proud, so I’m very happy to sign the contract at Norwich.
“Hopefully, I can get many more and the hard work continues. It’s an honour to play and represent the club. The faith they’ve put in me, I can’t thank them enough.”
He starred in the U18 side for the Canaries, which earned him five caps for the England U17 national team before he featured for South Africa at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria earlier this year.
“It was an honour to play for the country, my family are from there and to have them supporting me was a great feeling,” he added.
“The upcoming season is a big one for me. Hopefully, I can push for the Under-21s, establish myself into the squad and move forward.”
