Cape Town City have parted ways with midfielder Thato Mokoke, the player confirmed on social media.
Mokeke, 33, joined the club from Chippa United in January 2019 and will now be a free agent.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cape Town City Football Club for the years we shared together. I wish you the best for the rest of the season,” he wrote on social media.
Mokeke made 171 appearances for the Citizens, including nine across all competitions this campaign.
Mokeke’s last contract was running out in June 2024 and the player has been ruled out with injury until the end of the campaign.
His last game came in the Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 defeat to Golden Arrows.
City are yet to make a statement on the player’s exit, but this publication learnt he was released before the January window closed, meaning he could join a new club for the second half of the season.
However, he is still with the club to continue his rehab after his long-term injury. Mokeke is the club’s second departure in 2024 after Juan Zapata also left.
