Promising Stellies Talent Set To Leave

Stellenbosch FC forward Roy-Keane Avontuur looks set to leave the club before the end of the current transfer window.

The 21-year-old and Stellies are set to part ways as he seeks more regular first-team football after falling out of favour at the club.

Having joined Steve Barker’s side from Old Mutual Academy four years ago to join their DStv Diski Challenge squad, he immediately impressed and made his first team debut at 17.

He went on to make five appearances in the senior squad that season and was a dominant force in their youth set-up.

In addition, he won two DStv Diski Challenge titles, and the NXT Gen Cup alongside the likes of Mervin Boji, who has since moved to Cape Town Spurs as part of the deal which saw Ashely Cupido arrive at the Cape Winelands outfit.

Lehlohonolo Mojela, another new arrival – from TS Galaxy – also occupies the forward role, limiting the opportunities for potential game time.

“We’re currently in talks with the club to find a solution, Roy needs to play – still only 21 so we need to get him back on the field as soon as possible and take it from there,” his representative Ashley Rasool tells iDiski Times.

“There’s no doubting the ability and potential, it’s just about finding a suitable option for him to kick on. He’s a born finisher – no issue there.”

Avontuur spent six months on loan in the second tier with NB La Masia last season.
