Former Malawi international, Peter Mponda has revealed his first Black Leopards target after being unveiled as the club’s new assistant coach.
The former Leopards captain was confirmed as one of the technical team members of the club after they bought the Motsepe Foundation Championship status of All Stars.
Leopards were relegated from the Championship after finishing at the bottom of the promotional league last season, while All Stars finished in fourth.
Mponda himself played for Lidoda Duvha between 2005 and 2010 and he also got to wear the armband. The 41-year-old recently coached Nyasha Big Bullets in the Malawian League but has now returned and admitted his immediate mission is to win back the supporters’ trust.
“I know the situation where the club is in. I know how the president and the chairman operate, like I said I have worked with them for a number of years,” Mponda told the media in Polokwane.
“I know the culture, I know the supporters. So I don’t think it will be any problem to deliver for the club. Immediate responsibility is to win back the supporters because the time I was playing here it was the most supported team in the country. I don’t think it’s still the same.
“So first thing we need to have that trust with the supporters. Once the supporters trust you then you know you are in the right place and what you are doing is the right things and the results will come.”
