SA Teen Attracts Interest From UCL Club

Cape Town Spurs starlet Luke Baartman may only have just made his first team debut a month ago, but the teenager is already attracting overseas interest, according to reports.

Baartman, affectionately known as Boere, made his first team debut on the 20th of October in a 2-0 defeat in the Carling Knockout Cup to Orlando Pirates.

Since then he has also featured in three DStv Premiership fixtures, scoring his maiden goal in a 3-2 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on the 8th of November.

Now according to the Scottish Sun, Glasgow giants Celtic are monitoring the 17-year-old, and have been for some time.

But Brendan Rodgers team are reportedly not the only British club with an interest in Baartman, as English club Leeds United are also believed to be keeping an eye on the young attacker.

Due to his age, Baartman will however only be eligible to make an international move next year, with his 18th birthday in June.

Baartman is not the only South African teenager to have attracted interest from abroad, with a few youngsters on the radars of European clubs.

Orlando Pirates’ teenager Relebohile Mofokeng recently returned from training with Wolves in England, while a few months ago Baartman’s national U17 teammate Gabriel Amato of Cape Town City, spent some time in Belgium.
