Sekhukhune United’s new head coach, Cedric Kaze, has explained the importance of winning the Mafori Cup just before the new season.
Babina Noko came top of the Mafori Cup, which was hosted by Limpopo province and was contested by Polokwane City, Magesi FC, Venda Football Club, and Sekhukhune United.
United managed to beat Polokwane City in their opening match 1-0, with Bright Ndlovu scoring the only goal, which sent them into the final. In the final, Kaze’s side clinched the trophy by beating Magesi FC 1-0, with Athenkosi Mcaba scoring the only goal of the match.
Kaze explained how important it was to win the tournament ahead of the new campaign, with Babina Noko kicking off against his former co-coach Khalil Ben Yousseff and Durban City in the opening fixture of the Betway Premiership.
“It was a very interesting day, and we’ve learnt a lot of lessons from the two games, as well as very good minutes for everyone,” Kaze told the media.
“We have a little bit of a clear idea of how we want to go into the first game; it’s good to win a cup, but the most important thing is the game on Saturday against Durban City.”
