The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, has responded to SAFA’s intentions of lodging an official complaint over their FIFA World Cup qualifier.
SAFA CEO Teboho Motlanthe had confirmed on Monday that an official appeal against the match result has been made, as there were similarities between the match and South Africa’s game against Senegal in 2017 before it was replayed.
On Tuesday, FIFA have acknowledged they have received a complaint and are looking into the matter.
Also on Tuesday, Ghana’s Director of Communications confirmed they are not worried by the complaint, as they feel there was no foul-play involved.
“That’s (lodging a complaint) is all they can do. We do not think that we gave them a raw deal. The referee on the day was okay,” he told Joy Sports.
“We have been to places where officiating did not go our way but we did not even comment, for instance the game against Ethiopia, there were certain bad calls from the referee.
“When we played against Zimbabwe in Cape Coast, there were certain bad calls and we received a penalty against us.
“So things do not always go your way. But if it happens in situations like this where a draw will take you through and you look back at how they set up.
“They set up to defend, until we scored and it got to the 75th minute, the 80th minute, that wa when they were pilling pressure in need of an equaliser.
“Yes we respect their decision going to FIFA, but I’m afraid I don’t think it will change the outcome of the game.
“We won fairly, we fought very hard for it and I’m glad we are through to the next stage.”
SAFA will hold a press conference on Wednesday to address the steps going forward.
