Zambia smashed four goals past Mauritania in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier while Tunisia suffered a shock to defeat to blow Group B wide open amongst several thrilling games in Africa today.
Group B
The Chiopolopolo ended their three-game winless run in the group in emphatic fashion with Leicester City striker Patson Daka finding the net and Fashion Sakala of Glasgow Rangers bagging a hattrick.
It coincided with North African giants Tunisia losing to a late Pablo Ganet goal in the 83rd minute in Malabo – leaving all three sides able to qualify for the playoffs going into the final day on Monday.
Zambia face Tunisia in Tunis, while Mauritania – who have one point from five games will host Equatorial Guinea.
Mondher Kebaier’s side do, however, hold a huge advantage with a +7 goal difference, but should they be on the losing side, the Central African nation will advance while Zambia will need to net five unanswered goals.
Group C:
Nigeria beat Liberia 2-0 thanks to penalties in each half from Victor Osimhen and captain Ahmed Musa at the Grande Stade Tanger but it wasn’t enough to secure the qualification to the next round yet with 12 points.
This is due to second-placed Cape Verde keeping their campaign alive with a 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic. Julio Tavares and Stopira scored for the home side while as they came from behind after Isaac Ngoma’s 11th-minute opener.
Cape Verde have 10 points going into the final group game which will be decided in a heated affair in Lagos.
Group D
Cameroon smashed 10-man Malawi 4-0 at Orlando Stadium to keep their hopes of progression alive ahead of Ivory Coast who faced Mozambique.
Vincent Aboubakr netted the opener from the spot as John Banda received his marching orders and it was the Flames who chased shadows from thereon.
André-Frank Zambo Anguissa found the second before Christian Bassagog netted a late brace to add further gloss on the scoreline as they romped to 12 points ahead of their final clash against the Elephants who ran out 3-0 winners over the Mambas.
Goals from Max Gradel, Maxwell Cornet and Jean Seri eased their way to the summit of Group G, one point ahead of the Indomitable Lions – who they face for the Group decider on Monday.
