Broos Reacts To Lack Of Supporters At Bafana Game

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has admitted that he was disappointed with the low numbers of supporters who came to Orlando Stadium to watch the friendly against Namibia.

This publication learnt before the match that only 1,251 tickets were sold (stand 14:30), with the overall number of fans at the game understood to be just under 10,000.

Bafana played to a goalless draw against Namibia, with Broos using the opportunity to heavily rotate his squad and see several of his extended squad in a competitive match.

However, Bafana remained unbeaten in their eighth successive game under Broos, who admitted after the match that he expected more support – in particular after their win over Africa’s highest-ranked team Morocco in the previous international break.

“I want to play every game in from of a full stadium and honestly I expected that there should be more supporters today, because of the recent good results,” Broos told journalists.

“But yeah, maybe we have to play more good games before the public is coming back to the stadium.

“It will depend on us, if we are not playing good games and don’t win games, I think it’s also difficult for fans to come to the stadium.

“But okay, it was a quiet number of supporters, honesty I thought it should be more.”

Bafana return to Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, 12 September when they will host DR Congo, with Broos indicating he will play much of his strongest XI available.
