Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi feels Sundowns should be given the DStv Premiership title already as nobody will catch up with them.
The defending champions defeated SuperSport United 2-0 in their first League match since winning the African Football League to return to the top of the log with 27 points in nine outings with four matches in hand.
Sundowns also set a new Premier Soccer League (PSL) record of nine consecutive wins to start a new season.
Vilakazi says the fact that even with fringe players they are still able to give experienced coaches problems and maintain a high tempo is proof it will take a long time before other clubs catch- up with Rulani Mokwena’s men.
“Let’s give these guys [the title],” Tso said on iDiski TV.
“With players that have not played for a long time, they gave Gavin Hunt a headache. Gavin Hunt is not a young coach, he is not a young coach.
“If they can give someone like Gavin Hunt a headache like they did tonight, it tells you that Sundowns have prepared themselves very well.
“Mind you they [Sundowns] still have the likes of Allende who were out, Mshishi came in as a sub even Mudau came in as a sub. If he could field the XI he wants it means it’s over.
“With all due respect and I respect all the teams and all the coaches that are coaching in the league but with the way that Sundowns are playing and with the high tempo and how they change, rotate players and still dominate, that tells you that it’s going to take years for anyone to catch-up with Sundowns. So let’s just give them [the league].”
