Benni McCarthy has revealed why Kaizer Chiefs target Siyethemba Sithebe was not in the squad for AmaZulu’s first two games since the transfer window closed.
The 29-year-old was linked heavily with a move to Chiefs in the January window, with AmaZulu not being happy how Amakhosi handled the situation.
As a consequence, president Sandile Zungu had stated that Sithebe, whose contract runs out bu the end of the seaosn, will not play for AmaZulu again.
McCarthy, though, had continuously stated that he feels the player should remain part of the squad since he hasn’t left.
However, the Usuthu coach has now confirmed that the decision is not in his hands and he is not allowed to include Sithebe in his squad.
“When you have quality players and they don’t play, of course you see a void. The players come to train and should be available based on how they train, their work ethic and that.
“Sithebe wasn’t available and obviously it’s a discussion the club had with myself and the technical team on the situation – so it’s out of my control.
“I can only select who I have at my disposal and unfortunately I don’t have him at my disposal, so I can’t put a player that I can’t select.”
AmaZulu return to CAF football on Friday when they’ll face Horoya in their second Group B fixture, with both sides having lost their opener 1-0.
