Benzarti Responds To Wrong Tactics Claim
An upset Wydad Casablanca coach has responded to claims that he was tactically outsmarted by Kaizer Chiefs’ coaches before almost storming out of a press conference.
The 71-year-old saw his side get knocked out of the CAF Champions League by the Glamour Boys despite being rated as favourites coming into the tie.
However, Wydad twice failed to score against Amakhosi despite dominating possession and having many more shots than Chiefs.
When it was put to Benzarti by iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu that he may have used the wrong tactics, the Wydad coach reacted annoyed.
“Football is a game to watch and to enjoy,” he said.
“Obviously you get defensive teams and attacking teams. We attacked, Kaizer Chiefs defended very well.
“I always try to make football as enjoyable as possible. But it’s football, there will always be one winner and one loser.”
Benzarti almost stormed out of the press conference and had to be calmed down by the translator when being reminded of his previous comments favouring Esperance against Al Ahly in the other semi-final.
“I never said that Esperance will go through,” he insisted.
“I am Tunisian and support Esperance, but I never made such comments.”
He had stated that his former side were the favourites against Al Ahly and felt that Pitso Mosimane’s men did not look too convincing against Mamelodi Sundowns in the previous round.
