As one of the regulars in the CAFCL after reaching their 10th successive group stages, Sundowns are in Pot 1 and will avoid facing the likes of record champions Al Ahly, Elias Mokwana’s ES Tunis and TP Mazembe.
However, they could face teams from Pot 2, including Fagrie Lakay’s Pyramids, Young Africans, Raja CA or Khanyisa Mayo’s CR Belouizdad.
Meanwhile, Pirates sit in Pot 3 and they are even eligible to be drawn in the same group as Masandawana.
The Buccaneers, will definitely face one of Sundowns, Al Ahly, Esperance and Mazembe from Pot 1, as well as one of CR Belouizdad, Young Africans, Raja CA and Pyramids in what could turn out to be a very tricky group.
The group stage draw pots are based on the 5-year CAF ranking, which is based on results of the teams’ participation in the five (5) previous editions of the CAF Interclubs Competitions.
