Zwane Explains Bvuma Absence

Bruce Bvuma was a notable absence from Kaizer Chiefs second leg squad against Wydad Casablanca and Arthur Zwane Revealed why the first-leg hero was missing.

The goalkeeper put in a Man of the Match performance in Casablanca when Chiefs collected an important 1-0 victory.

However, to the shock of many, he wasn’t even on the bench for the second leg at the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs’ media department had put out a statement, trying to explain why Bvuma and Leonardo Castro were not in the line-up but didn’t give much information about the shot stopper.

After the match, though, Zwane said that Bvuma got into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19 and was not part of the squad as a precaution.

“As a country, we have a situation where we are suffering because of the pandemic,” he told reporters.

“So, Bvuma was one of the players who had Covid-19 contact. As a team, we decided not to risk him. Because we wanted to make sure that everyone is save.

“Otherwise if we wanted to use him, we could’ve used him. But we wanted to make sure that each and every player that had contact will isolate. Now the doctors will deal with it. That’s the truth of the matter.”

Daniel Akpeyi played in goal instead and kept another clean sheet for his side. The Glamour Boys booked their ticket for the final without conceding a single goal at home.
