Rulani Reveals Details Behind Sirino Return

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed that Gaston Sirino did apologise to the club for his actions, and the apology was accepted, leading to his return to the squad.

Sirino was understood to have submitted a transfer request during the recent transfer window, with coach Rulani Mokwena confirming the player had asked him to leave

However, with seemingly no club coming forward with a suitable offer for the 32-year-old, he remained with the club but was training alone for some period.

But on Wednesday, he made a surprise appearance in Masandawana’s match-day squad and came on the second half to score a 97th minute equaliser in Downs Carling Knockout Cup match with TS Galaxy.

Sirino also converted his spot-kick calmly but couldn’t prevent his side’s 5-4 defeat, which resulted in his club’s elimination from the Carling Knockout Cup.

After the match, Mokwena has confirmed that Sirino has apologised to the club for his antics and that apology was accepted, opening a pathway for him to return.

“Life rewards you when you’re doing good,” he explained.

“The club did good by accepting an apology. The player did good by apologising and recognising his wrongs.

“That’s how the universe works, when you do good you get rewarded. He showed good resilience, good positivity and a good attitude and helped the team to come back.”

Sundowns now turn their attention to the African Football League (AFL) where they will Petro de Luanda in Angola on Saturday.
