Chiefs Agree Terms For Latest Signing

Kaizer Chiefs have agreed personal terms with Venezuela international midfielder Edson Castillo, iDiski Times understands.

Castillo emerged as a transfer target for Chiefs in January after the exit of Njabulo Blom to Major League Soccer outfit St Louis City SC.

However, the club opted against signing the 29-year-old who had become a free agent after Caracas and he returned to his former club Monagas on a short-term deal.

But this publication understands talks were reopened after the end of the 2022/23 season and the two parties have come to an agreement on personal terms ahead of his expected arrival after the end of the Copa Libertadores group stage campaign.

It seems Castillo’s final game for Monagas will be a clash against Argentina giants Boca Juniors at their famous La Bombonera home ground on 30 June.

The technically gifted midfielder who’s comfortable in a six or eight role made his senior international debut for his country back in 2021 in the Copa America under current Nigeria head coach José Peseiro, who often praised his ability to work-rate and goal-scoring threat.

At club level, he’s amassed over 200 professional games with experience in his home country, Azerbaijan and Mexico as he now takes the next venture of his career in South Africa with the Soweto giants.

Castillo becomes the club’s latest signing ahead of the 2023/24 campaign after they already announced the arrival of highly-rated defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe on a pre-contract from Supersport United, while Given Msimango and Mduduzi Mdantsane are understood to have agreed to join Amakhosi.
