Chiefs Interest In Kodisang Denied

South Africa youth international winger Kobamelo Kodisang looks likely to leave Braga at the end of the season, while the reported interest from Kaizer Chiefs has been denied.

Kodisang, who turns 23 in August has long been touted as a future star for South African football, having made his Premier Soccer League (PSL) debut at the age of 15 at the now-defunct Platinum Stars under then-head coach Cavin Johnson.

Two years later he joined Bidvest Wits before a loan spell in the Portuguese third division with Sanjoanense, where Braga spotted him and signed him for their reserve team.

Kodisang has been one of the standout players for the Braga B squad and despite training with the first-team and making the bench on a couple of occasions, he’s yet to make his first-team bow.

His representative Mike Makaab reveals that his original three-year contract is set to expire in July and it’s unlikely that the club will take up the option to extend it.

“They have an option that they can exercise, I think by the end of May they have to exercise the option. I think it’s two years, but I’d be very surprised if they exercised the option because they haven’t utilised him,” Makaab tells iDiski Times.

Makaab previously confirmed to this publication that they are open to him returning to South Africa, if a solid project for the player was on the table with guaranteed first-team football, however, after three years in Europe already, remaining there would be the first priority.

Amid his uncertain future in Portugal, reports in local media emerged that Chiefs were interested in luring the player to the DStv Premiership, something Makaab says is not the case at present.

“There comes a time when you look at a player and say, he’s done everything he’s been asked to do in the reserve team, it’s now time to put our belief in him and put him in the first-team, it hasn’t happened at Braga – so it’s been disappointing,” he admitted.

“We just have to see what transpired and no there’s absolutely nothing from Kaizer Chiefs.”

Kodisang has scored 16 goals in 42 starts for Braga B in the Portuguese third-tier since his arrival in August 2019.
